In Gorenje Surovina Maribor, namely Tezno workunit, we installed an automatic external defibrillator (AED). It is a portable device that is capable of detecting cardiac arrest in humans and with the help of an electric shock restart the heart. According to statistics, ten persons a day suffer a cardiac arrest in Slovenia and about half of them die. Sudden cardiac arrest usually occurs without warning; the heart simply stops, so a person’s life and death depends on immediate first aid provided. In the event of a heart failure, revitalization using AED can do as much as the entire rescue team that arrives later. For these reasons, Gorenje Surovina decided to purchase the device. It is located at the main entrance of Gorenje Surovina in the guardian's cabin on Lahova 40, and is available 24 hours a day to anyone who might need it.
